7.7.7 Live Earth – Don’t just join it, be part of it.

Posted in Concert, Life, communication, health, news, people, reflection, time by tazifier on July 6, 2007

I’m sure you people out there have heard from various means of media of Live Earth which will commence tomorrow, 7th July. If you hadn’t, go googling.

Live Earth is a monumental music event that will bring together more than 2 billion people to combat the climate crisis. Live Earth’s 24 hours of music across 7 continents will deliver a call to action and the solutions needed to answer the call.

So let’s join it by wearing green on 7th-8th of July to show our support!

Being curious to know more about this Live Earth, I went googling on the net and by some random chance, I happened to stumble across this blog.

I say:
However skeptics or not, isn’t it better for me, you and everyone to view it in a positive way instead of squabbling over if the concert is of exaggeration?

Just face it, at least the concert will bring something out of everybody in this Earth no matter how much the energy consumption may cost at that period of 2 days. The crux of the matter is that this event will bring more than 2 billion people worldwide in an effort to save the world from a future catastrophe. (Note: I don’t use global warming as an excuse) Even if the media does say something about global warming, it is part of ‘the’ problem. Subjective or not, it’s saving the world.

Now, put it in a way that this Live Earth event is as a way of reaching to the masses to tell them that ‘Hey, join us to save the world,’. Isn’t that more appealing than what used to be campaigns? Better or not, it’ll be reaching to the ignorant minds of more than 2 billion souls and perhaps doing some good in an effort to achieve the green future become a reality. If not, near reality.

In a nutshell, whether we are drowned with propagandas that they’re not in any way exaggerating, if scientists or Al Gore himself is misrepresenting their claims, just face it that the Earth is in crisis, not because of Earth-problems but of us-alike squabbling over who is right or wrong. To think of it, it’s like a dog chasing its tail. If this continues and no action is taken, I guess we can argue till we can one day bid goodbye to mother Earth. Proactive attitude that we all ought to have.

What should we do?
Don’t just join it, be part of it!

Start reducing waste, be creative!

and oh, visit here to commit your support. Surprising that the Singapore language is in Malay. At least, they acknowledge it as the national language.

Indeed, if everyone stopped squabbling and just agreed that the anthropogenic global warming theory is unproven, we could divert the massive amounts of resourced being wasted by Kyoto to:

    A) Save lives through proven methods such as providing clean water to developing nations, recycling or alternatives to logging;

    B) Actually helping the environment by improving alternative energy technology and building more green infrastructure. Right now, Europe is wasting billions while actually increasing its greenhouse gas emissions. http://scottthong.wordpress.com/2007/05/22/the-star-opinions-kyoto-will-creep-up-on-us/

Don’t ask questions. Don’t consider whether my suggestion is even based on reality or fact. Don’t even start to think whether I’m wrong, misguided, or just plain lying. Subjective or not, my methods are saving the world.

Wait, why don’t you believe me without question? Is it because I haven’t made a movie about my views, backed up by distorted data?

Do you see the problem here with just going along with whatever some parties CLAIM to be the truth? What if I’m totally wrong? Or rather, what if the IPCC is totally wrong? I mean, tens of millions of Africans have died because DDT was banned, all because people believed Rachel Carson and her book Silent Spring without stopping to do proper research. By the time her theories were disproven, it was too late. There’s your human and Earth loving environmentalism for you.

Sorry if I sound overly critical or even rude, but skepticism is what keeps innocent people ALIVE in this evil-and-lie filled world… Especially in Johor Bahru, crime capital. Not shutting off our brain is the right thing to do, not a negative practise.

The worst part is – people will go to the concert, and not change their lifestyle because it involded discomfort (and let’s face it, the rock stars will NEVER surrender their wasteful lifestyles either… Some role models for anti-global warming).

No, actually, the REAL worst part is – in all likelihood, global warming is nowhere near being the doomsday threat we hear it touted as. Therefore, Live Earth is polluting and wasting and eating up our thinking time for NOTHING.

A quick and quite comprehensive read. I suggest it to balance Al Gore’s film. Or do you agree we should all just listen to me and stop the squabbling?

yes, hmmm… to some extent you may be right.

Well, being a pragmatist and a cynic, here is my proposal: We should get started on the green infrastructure, such as solar power and hybrid vehicles. Make it cheap and efficient. But don’t impose heavy carbon taxes yet. As green energy becoems cheaper, more people will prefer it to fossil fuels and make the switch without being forced to.

10 years down the road, if Al Gore turns out to be right then we will have already gotten one foot into a fossil-fuel free civilization, WITHOUT sacrificing our economy. Or if Al Gore is proven wrong, we will still have stated towards a greener, cleaner, richer economy that is not at the mercy of fluctuating oil prices and Middle East politics.

What do you think? It’s a win-win situation, neither side has to give up completely, it doesn’t say that any side of the globalw arming debate is right or wrong, and we can agree to get started instead of bickering (which is the host’s complaint).

I call it the Green Carrot Compromise – Abdullah Badawi agrees with my plan, and I’ll bet Lee Hsien Loong and Lee Kuan Yew would too.

well, sacrificing our economy is definitely unavoidable if we are to do such things – to be a fossil-fuel free civilization. Putting in a lot of funds into research and development and improvising to clean and greener cars.

Hmmmm, since the developing nations needs the development, I guess it’s inevitable they will use ways that is much more viable. In this case, using fossil fuels. I think the developed nations like North America and Europe should do a more major role to reduce emissions that’s polluting the environment. It’s not fair to impose it on developing nations like China and India and South East Asian nations.

I see your point but as you say, neither side has to give up. I guess, see whose debate is much more factual and logical.
